Elle a pour thème “The Politics of Intermedial Connectivity”. Le programme est en ligne: https://events.vub.be/the-politics-of-intermedial-connectivity/pages/program

La communication que je vais effectuer avec Claudia Polledri a pour objet “Teaching intermediality (2017-2025): : from historiographical overview to decolonial practices“. Elle se déroulera le 27 mai 2026.

Le résumé est le suivant:

Throughout this 20-minute presentation, we would like to provide feedback on the five summer schools in intermedial studies that we organized at the University of Montreal between 2017 and 2025. These schools consist of intensive, multidisciplinary seminars lasting one week (36 hours of instruction) that 15 to 20 students receive credit for as part of their graduate or postgraduate studies. Over the past eight years, we have taught these summer schools in intermedial studies on topics such as testimonials and creative archival practices. During the five editions, we have evolved in our understanding of intermediality. Starting from a historiographical point of view of intermediality as a perspective that allows for the study of phenomena such as co-presence, transfer, and emergence, we have gradually taken on a more political perspective. We began by emphasizing the notion of the media environment (“milieu” in French). We then took a more critical perspective. This led us to highlight non-hegemonic practices. Finally, during our last edition, we adopted a decolonial approach to intermediality (we will repeat the experience during the 2026 edition, which will be held from June 1 to 6).

In this talk, we want to explore this shift in our understanding of intermediality. We also plan to compare it with developments in intermedial studies in Montreal and around the world. Finally, we want to critically examine our own epistemological biases and question the blind spots in our current line of thinking (particularly with regard to ecocritical studies).
